Simone & Steve
Steve pulls into the driveway and runs off the driveway into the grass. Simone could hear as he swerved to miss the tree on the side of the house. Every weekend Steve comes home drunk. Simone tries to hurry off the phone before he notices. Simone knew how Steve gets when he is drunk so she ended her conversation abruptly. She walked over to the couch, sat down, and turned on the television. She knew that Steve was going to start something with her, so she was preparing herself mentally for it. She was tired of his antics so she decided to take matters into her own hands.
Steve came over to the couch and stood over Simone.
“Who were you talking to on the phone?”
Simone did not answer him.
“I know you heard me!” he yelled with the fumes of his night breathing on her face.
“I am leaving you. I can’t take this anymore! I can do better than this!” she said as she stood up to grab her purse.
Steve pushed her back onto the couch and told her that he was not going to let her leave. He began drilling punches into her face as if she was a punching bag. He broke her nose, busted her lip, and cut her chin. She had blood streaming down her face. After he finished he grabbed her and threw her on the bed.
He demanded that she stay there. Steve began removing his clothing. Simone curled up into a ball. Steve took off his belt and asked her to lay right. She refused. He asked her again to lay right. She refused. Steve proceeded to swing the belt at her hitting her repeatedly on the back and on her legs. Simone let out a loud excruciating bellow. She gave in and relaxed her body. Steve opened her legs and ripped her clothes off of her. He raped her while placing his hand on her neck.
Simone cried then reassured herself that things will never change. She decided she would wait till he fell asleep before she left. She knew it was his life or her own, but if she left, she could preserve both lives. Simone still loved him, but she knew that his heart of cool would never turn into diamonds for her. The inevitability of her doom was slowly creeping up on her and she needed an escape.
She crept out of the bed and gathered her things. She waited patiently then, tip-toed out the side door toward the carport. As she moved towards her car, she turned around to see if he saw her. She moved fast to get into her car. She did not think he noticed that she got up. She drove off thinking that she got away. Suddenly, bright beams of light were blinding her in her rearview. She was not able to see the road ahead of her. The road curved, but she could not see the curve and drove off the overpass into an on-coming lane of traffic.
There was an immediate response from the cops, firemen and EMT teams. The firemen use the Jaws of Life to cut her out of the car. She was rushed to the emergency room and was immediately taken to surgery. On impact her lungs were crushed and her rib cage was broken to include a broken arm, sprained ankle, and a few cuts and bruises. The EMT assessed that she had some pre-accident bruising and hemorrhaging. He told the cop what he knew after returning to the scene.
Homicide detectives were on the scene and noticed skid marks leading to the cliff. Detective Cassey was able to trace the cause of the accident to Steve. Depending on if Simone survived or not, would factor in Steve’s sentence. Steve wanted to check up on her, but he knew that he would not be allowed in the room. He hated himself.
After surgery Simone was moved to an intensive care unit within the hospital. She was in a coma and had a 33% chance of surviving and a 20% chance of living a normal life afterwards.

In love's Name is a collection of short stories that I began a few years ago. I wanted to show the aspects of what happens in everyday life situations. As people we say we love, but not everyone understands love or how it effects those who love us.
